|Winelands and Tours Description
Since the very first vines were planted in the Cape over three and a half centuries ago,the region has become internationally famous for it's wines. Within an hour's drive of Cape Town there are many hundreds of wine producers making some of the finest wines in the New World. From the most affordable easy drinking blends to the still remarkably affordable Internationally award winning noble cultivars, the Cape offers wines to suit every palate.
The rolling hills and hidden valleys are complimented by towering mountains, stately oaks, and fertile vineyards. The very distinctive whitewashed Cape Dutch architecture can be found across all of these beautiful winelands.
There are 13 designated wine routes in the Cape Winelands region and Route 62 ,linking the Winelands, Breede River Valley and the Klein Karoo, is reputed to be the world's longest wine route.
The capital of the wine growing area is Stellenbosch,it is South Africa's second oldest town and has the largest concentration of wine producers within the surrounding valley's and hillsides. It is very difficult to find an estate that does not offer beautiful views, pretty architecture or satisfying food. We think no one does it better than the delightful town of Franschhoek, situated in it's own beautiful valley, studded with fruit farms and wine estates, not forgetting some of the best restaurants in the winelands. It should be noted that many wine estate restaurants only open for lunch and not dinner and it is worth checking beforehand.
There is so much information available in many forms relating to the Winelands, it can be extremely difficult to make the right choice.Given the sheer scale of things to see and do, places to stay and restaurants to visit when travelling the winelands, we feel the the following will provide some guidance and help you plan your ....Grape Escape !
